Stuffed doll made by refugee women from Afghanistan who now live in India. The Silaiwali dolls are handcrafted and measure approximately 47 x 13 cm. Each doll is unique and wears an individually handcrafted outfit.
The sustainable clothing of each doll is made from leftover fabrics. These remnants, which end up on the large clothing landfill in India due to the fast fashion industry, are either destroyed or burned. Silaiwali transforms these leftovers into beautiful dolls in a Boho look.
Each doll comes with a mattress, a pillow, and a bedspread, so it lies in a bed. The packaging (the bed) is a beautiful (foldable) gift box made of cardboard with a carrying handle. Each doll is attached to a label with a QR code that tells the beautiful story behind the dolls in a video. The story and background information about Silaiwali are also included in a brochure.
Materials used: Cotton (doll, mattress, pillow, and bedspread), polyfill, wool (hair), recycled cardboard (folding box).
NB The dolls are not sold as toys, as they have not been professionally tested according to EU standards (the dolls should be tested individually, as they are handmade). We assume they are safe for children, but we do not take responsibility as a company.
Silaiwali has partnered with the FAIR TRADE FORUM INDIA, which, together with UNHCR, secures livelihoods for refugees.
